day 24, to the grand finals nsb go!

Day 24

1/03

Won basketball…thank God I played like crap but we still won! Grand finals next week, playing Ashfield (uh oh I’m scared…), but we’ll kick their butts. It would suck badly if we lost because we haven’t even lost a game this year…WOW

and just realised that this post is massive...lots of thoughts, (and no homework!)

Transformed by the truth
God’s word, we need to see how powerful this is, it’s just not a boring old book but something God has blessed us with, breathed out, and well given us the opportunity to know him more and to make us like Jesus!

The Bible does all this –
Generates life, creates faith, produces change, frightens the Devil, causes miracles, heals hurts, builds character, transforms circumstances, imparts joy, overcomes adversity, defeats temptation, infuses hope, releases power, cleans our minds, brings things into being and guarantees our future forever.

UNBELIEVABLE and amazing!
Must learn how to use our bibles, sort of studied this in NOOB class but its ok.

I must accept its authority

Let the Bible be the ultimate authority of my life, I would love it to be.

Assimilate its truth

You can believe in it but you have to “assimilate” it as well, which means taken in…incorporate.

Five ways:

Receive

Have the attitude that you want to take God’s word in and move on from there

Read

Well I’ve felt in the past weeks I’ve been getting less and less out of the bible, and so it’s awesome that just as I’m slipping away, an opportunity to start a bible reading plan pops up. Thank God, Ron-e, Dennis and I are starting next week and this should really be good!

Researching
So yeah, I hope this group of three will really get heaps out of this, and one year from now we won’t regret taking the plan! I pray that we can stay committed and not to put off readings for anything (may be hard for you guys, well I’m in Year 10…HAHA)

Remembering
So I’ve been reading the Bible, but I haven’t really learnt any direct passages off by heart. With this new study, I really hope I can begin to do this. Review, Review, Review!

Reflect
Meditation, I do it sometimes, not enough.
All these things I really hope I can pick up on in the next year, it’s a great opportunity God has given us three to practice and it’s up to us whether or not we want to or not.

Must apply its principles

“Doers of the word”
However, it’s all useless if we don’t take action. Implement and practice. It may be difficult but the truth WILL set us free.
Set out actions as a result of your readings, write down what we exactly intend to do.

Verse:
If you continue in my word, then are you my disciples indeed; and you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free.
John 8:31-32

Q/A
Well the main one that I feel really bad about is honoring my parents. I try (not hard enough) but I’ve just taken the cheap way out and acted immaturely a lot of the times…
Something I intend to do:
-Stop being frustrated and annoyed at things they do sometimes, and accept that they just want best for me. Help me recognize they aren’t being restrictive for personal fun but for they’re care. Look the Holy Spirit to change the way I think.

Wow long post today...

hey man
yeah, this chapter i can soo totally relate to. all the ppl at my church are like: "albert, you gotta keep feeding yourself of spiritual food." and i was like, huh? but after reading this chapta it totally made sense - awesome.
readng bible is very important because it is the Word of God. He speaks throught the bible and we need to understand the meaning of what we read. ppl often read the bible but thats it, they dont understand and put into practice. It so good if we put wot we learn into practice, then we learn and understand and remeber the bible and its teachings so much betta. i've been doing that more and putting wot i learn into practice and i talk to isaac bout it and its really cool because you realise that the choice i made was right. even if it wasnt what i personally wanted.
memorising verses are so important too. im working on it and i hope u r 2. remember i told u bout that guy in our church hoo recited a trillion and one verses of by heart? yeah, he has all these important verses in his head and he can use them as "ammunition" when he is in trouble. I am always, ALWAYS tempted to sin and too many times i give in. Because i dont have any "ammunition" to fend off my temptations. It even sed so in the book so i was like - "i awesomely truly agree to the maxx with what it sed."
n e hoo, yeah, i put up a Looong comment on Ronnie's blog. I hope i can meet him. i presume he goes to ur church, if u see him can u say hi for me?

Hi guys, finally i'm back up to scratch....read like a few devotions at once and yeah i'm on track with you guys again =).

Thoughts:
To assimilate truth I must be open and receptive to receive God's word. I confess that I judge a speaker even before they say something (and I do have my favourites) but that is wrong! Sometimes I'm not in the mood to hear the sermon and therefore my mind is closed and I'm not open to what God is telling me today. I try to pray before every sermon to change this cos yeah.....'God can speak through even the most boring of teachers'. =P

Like you guys read then study God's word by thinking, questioning and writing down your thoughts. Never used to do this (cos Alan is lazy) but yeah I can slowly see the significance of this.

It's great that you guys are forming a small daily bible group. That's awesome! Accountability is great and imparting your thoughts about what you have learnt through God's Word can really edify each other.

Going to start day 25 tonight: "Transformed by Trouble"
Keep up the good work guys!
